Self Portrait II

by Holo

about

After his first batch of releases on Crossing Paths, Holo returns with two pieces inspired by the balance of order (or comfort) and chaos. Much in the vein of "Triangles I", "Self Portrait I" works with angles, vertices and pure lines to form a complex, erratic diagram. Amidst the visual of broken glass, sharp and dangerous, a face reveals itself to the viewer, asking for their complicity with a arguable friendly attitude.

Nonetheless, part of the sense that could be made of SP1 is also due to the parity with "Self Portrait II". The unlikeness of formats – once more a drawing and a photograph, although this time Holo heavily manipulates the second, almost erasing the humanity of the face – applied within the same series informs much more about the artist, about what moves his craft. Presented together in this set, these two pieces reaffirm their diversity and reorder the very notion of "set", a big preoccupation of Crossing Paths as a gallery. It's a matter of thinking what defines the identity of an artist and an exhibition space.
